The Election Resource Centre (ERC) joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day on 8 March 2017. This day presents an important opportunity to recognise the important role played by women in society. On Thursday the 9th of March 2017, we are hosting the Goromonzi West Member of Parliament who is also the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Gender, Honourable Biata Nyamupinga, the Bulawayo East Member of Parliament Honourable Thabitha Khumalo and the Coordinator of #SheVotes, Ms Maureen Kademaunga, to represent politicians and human rights activists who have been actively involved in politics, elections and democratic processes.
The ERC takes this opportunity to celebrate women who are involved in elections and democracy and highlight the often ignored issue of election related violence and intimidation affecting their effective participation in Zimbabwe’s electoral processes.
In an environment largely hostile and unaccommodating to women, these three women have shown outstanding courage and conviction in ensuring participation of ordinary communities in democratic processes. The ERC therefore invites them to share their challenges, successes and opportunities towards electoral democracy.
Tune into http://tunein.com/radio/ZiFM-Stereo-1064-s178510/ at 19:30 hours on 9 March 2017 and be part of the discussion.
