Mutoko North Constituency in Mashonaland East is set to have a by- election on the 24th of November 2018. The Nomination Court for purposes of receiving nominations of candidates for the election for the vacant seat sat on the 12th of October 2018.
Background
The by- election is being held due to the House of Assembly seat that fell vacant after the elevation of incumbent legislator, Mrs Marble Chinomona to the President of Senate.
This elevation paved a way for a by- election in terms of the Constitution. Section 129 (1) (d) of the Constitution read as follows, “The seat of a Member of Parliament becomes vacant on the Member becoming President of the Senate or Speaker or a Member of the other House”.

Mutoko North is a developed constituency due to donor assistance that has brought income generation projects within the area and its close proximity to Harare. Most individuals rely on farming and sell their produce to Mbare market sellers. Some of the residents are employed in Harare and the constituency has a population of 48,001, with females accounting 52, 7%. The constituency’s population is housed in about 11,204 households with an average household size of 4 people.
The constituency has 11 wards, and the neighbouring constituencies comprise of Mutoko East constituency and Mutoko South constituency.
