Zanu PF candidate for Mwenezi East, Joshua Moyo was on Monday nominated unopposed at the nomination court that sat at Masvingo Magistrate Court.
Three constituencies-Mwenezi East, Marondera Central and Mbire-fell vacant after the expulsion of incumbent Members of Parliament, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, Ray Kaukonde and David Butau respectively, from both parliament and Zanu PF party.
The trio was booted out of the ruling party after being linked to a group led by former Vice President Joice Mujuru accused of wanting to topple President Mugabe.
Masvingo provincial elections officer Mr Zex Zirabada Pudurai said Moyo was the only candidate who had filed his papers from the time the nomination court opened at 10am up to its closure at 4pm.
“Joshua Moyo of Zanu-PF has been duly elected legislator for Mwenezi East parliamentary seat with effect from 19 September this year which had been proclaimed as the date for the by-election,’’ he said.
Meanwhile Four filed nomination court papers four candidates from different political parties will battle out in September to fill the vacancy in Marondera Central parliamentary seat after they successfully filed their nomination papers at Marondera Magistrate Court.
The four who filed their nomination papers are Lawrence Katsiru (Zanu PF), Wadzanai Mabika (National Constitutional Assembly), Solomon Makaza (Transform Zimbabwe) and Kingdom Nyika (Freedom Front Party).
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Chief Elections Officer for Mashonaland East Province, Collins Munetsi confirmed about the four names and said that elections will be held on September 19.
“Since more than one candidate has been duly nominated in the Marondera Central constituency, a poll shall take place on Saturday , 19th September 2015, in accordance with subsection 17 of Section 46 of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) as read with Proclamation Number 7 of 2015,” said Munetsi.
In Bindura the nomination court set at Bindura Magistrate Court were three candidates successfully submitted their nomination papers for the Mbire parliamentary constituency by-election.
The three candidates are Douglas Karoro of Zanu PF, Kudzanai Gondo Transform Zimbabwe and Njabulo Sibanda National Consultative Assembly (NCA).
